Data is scarce regarding Antimicrobial Resistance in PNG. Surveillance systems are stagnant or non-existent. No information is being actively reported by hospitals, laboratories and the health department to where we really need it. Health workers on the ground and on the front lines treating patients struggle to manage AMR in PNG. Health workers in most cases are unaware if they are dealing with patients that carry a resistant pathogen. The sad truth is that we are often left guessing and praying for divine intervention that the treatments we give will benefit our patients. Hospitals and their staff are acting as independent entities that fight AMR on a daily basis with little or no support from the health department.

The following survey form was created to collect information from health workers particularly Residents, Medical Officers, Senior Medical Officers and Health Extension Officers who are mainly responsible for collecting microscopy, culture and sensitivity specimens from their patients. This survey aims to link hospitals around PNG and give a snap shot of the cuttent state of the fight against AMR.
We encourage all health workers around PNG to participate in this important survey.
The data collected will be summarised at the end of the survey and published on the blog.
